Surfing was invented hundreds of years ago in Hawaii. Of course, the surf sport looked different at the time than it does today - but the basic idea was the same: to make spectacular use of the power of the waves and the ocean! The history of the Dakine brand also begins in Hawaii. Dakine founder Rob Kaplan has been one of the leading sporting goods manufacturers in the surf and water sports scene since the dawn of modern surfing and contributed significantly to the development of the trend sport with his functional equipment in the 70s. Kaplan developed the very first innovative surf leashes and distributed them under the Dakine brand. It wasn't until the 20th century that Dakine wetsuits was born, following the same blueprint - quality, durability & innovation.
